👀 Former Secret Garden owners seek new tenant

January 14, 2026 · — Peyton Garcia

Good morning, Denver! Thomas “Detour” Evans has done it again — check out the beloved local muralist’s latest work, now up at the National Western Stock Show. It’s a 35-foot-long traveling mural and visual narrative of Colorado’s agricultural history in his signature striking colors 🎨

“If the work encourages even one young viewer to envision themselves as a future farmer, rancher, or steward of the land,” Detour said, “then it has fulfilled its purpose.”

Neighborhood Shoutouts

We’re back with more recommendations from City Cast Denver Neighbors about their fave local people, spots, and organizations in the Mile High, so they can become your favorites too 💕

📣 Mike W. is shouting out Jimano's in Englewood. “It’s the best pizza I’ve had around here! Thin crust with Giardiniera all day!!”

📣 Kim S. is giving a shoutout to Hooked on Colfax in City Park. "It is an outstanding gathering space with coffee and a bar. They host community events, they have great drinks and pastries made in-house, in the evening they serve alcohol, and they also have the best community bulletin board in the city.”

📣 Chase H. wants to shoutout two Aurora faves: Bánh & Butter Bakery Café and Cerebral Brewing’s Aurora Arts taproom. “East Colfax could use your support!”

What's CITY Talking About

⚠️ Dozens More Gas Stations Affected By Tainted Fuel

HF Sinclair, one of the area’s largest fuel providers, has confirmed unleaded gasoline contaminated with diesel fuel was distributed from its Adams County terminal to nearly three dozen local gas stations last week. The mixture can cause expensive damage to a car. Affected fuel stations include King Soopers, Costco, Safeway, Circle K, Sinclair, and Murphy Express.

  • What to do: If you filled up with the bad gas, you’ll notice issues while driving, or your car may stop running completely. Customers who were impacted can submit a complaint to the Colorado Division of Oil and Public Safety online or call 303-866-4967.

🚨 Proposed ICE Face Mask Ban Could Get Complicated

The Department of Homeland Security says it will not comply if Denver attempts to enact a ban prohibiting ICE agents from wearing face coverings while conducting operations in the city. Denver police would be responsible for enforcement, but city lawyers aren’t actually sure they’d be within their legal limits to do so. [Axios Denver]

  • 💬 DHS assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin called the proposal “despicable and a flagrant attempt to endanger our officers.”

👀 Former Secret Garden Owners Plan Replacement Cafe

The owners of a historic mansion in Cheesman Park are in the market for a new tenant after abruptly shutting down Secret Garden, the popular cafe and cocktail bar operating there last October, amid staff unionization efforts. The investment firm says it plans to find a tenant that can offer the same services as Secret Garden. [Denver Post 🔒]

⚽ Construction Delayed on Denver Summit FC Centennial Stadium

The city’s new professional women’s soccer team will play the first few home games of its inaugural season at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City. (With the exception of their debut game which is scheduled for Empower Field on March 28.) Completion of the team’s headquarters and temporary home stadium in Centennial — which is where they’ll play until the official stadium is built in Baker — has been delayed likely until summer.
