🚧 Who’s hacking DOTI’s road signs?
December 16, 2025 · — Peyton Garcia
Good morning, Denver! Haven’t started your holiday shopping? Don’t worry, we have! Gift giving will be easy-peasy this season when you pick something from our Mile High Gift Guide. You’re welcome 😉 🎁

What's CITY Talking About

🆘 Socks the Coors Field Cat is Missing
Coors Field’s favorite feline resident hasn’t been seen by her volunteer care team in four weeks. If you think you’ve seen her, her care team asks that you DM them on X at @CoorsFieldCat. “We’re hoping she’s simply found a new hiding spot – and your sightings could make all the difference!” [X]
🚘 Car Theft in Denver is Way Down
Recent data from the Denver Police Department shows a 63% drop in stolen vehicle reports from 2022 to 2025. Just three years ago, the Mile High City topped the charts for most car theft reports in the nation, after which the city launched several new measures — including the controversial Flock surveillance cameras — to crack down on the crime. 🚧 Who’s Hacking Denver’s Street Signs?
A couple of digital road safety signs downtown were hacked last Friday night to display the message: “Cars Ruin Cities.” But this isn’t the first time road signs like this have been manipulated. Today on the City Cast Denver podcast, we dig into the mystery of the sign hackings and what we’ve learned about the future of this unique form of vandalism. [City Cast Denver 🎧]
🌸 Denver’s Japantown Is Ready for a Revamp
The authorities behind Sakura Square — the outdoor plaza taking up the 1900 block of Larimer Street and marking the center of Denver’s historic Japantown — have requested $30 million from the Denver Downtown Development Authority to build a new temple and cultural community center in the area. [Denver Business Journal 🔒]
- Some background: Sakura Square is one of 80-plus applicants vying for a piece of the $164 million in bond money currently available from the DDDA for local improvement projects. Last year, Denver voters approved a measure to expand the boundaries of the DDDA and OK’d up to $570 million in debt financing. [Denverite]
