What's CITY Talking About

a rendering of an early concept design for Denver's "shared streets" project
The Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is seeking community feedback on the early concept designs for its “Shared Street” project. Officials are considering eight stretches of road across the city to be transformed into spaces designed for “low vehicle volumes and slow travel speeds” in order to prioritize walking, biking, and rolling. 💰 City’s New Homelessness Provider Pays CEO $370K

As Denver City Council considers $33 million in contracts with Urban Alchemy to provide local homelessness services, recent tax filings show that the organization’s CEO and top execs make six-figure salaries, fly first class, and get shuttled around by hired drivers — unusually luxe compensation compared to other local nonprofits. 🇺🇸 A Very Denver Democratic Senate Primary

⛽ It’s a Great Time To Fill Your Tank

The recent arrival of several big-name gas station chains coupled with falling oil prices are fueling historic lows for Denver gas prices. The cost of gas in the metro area last week averaged $2.41 per gallon (as low as $1.67 at one Shell station). Statewide, prices are the second lowest in the country. [Denverite]

⚖️ Disability Rights Activists Sue RTD

Disability advocacy group Atlantis ADAPT alleges that RTD will be violating the Americans with Disabilities Act when the rates for its on-demand ride services for people with disabilities increase at the start of the new year. The proposal drew major pushback from the community when it was approved by RTD’s board of directors in October. [Denver Post 🔒]
