What's CITY Talking About
🚩 SWAT Sergeant Was Drunk Responding to School Shooting
Sgt. Anthony Hamilton with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office admits that he had consumed the “better part of a 12 pack” before arriving at the active shooter situation at Evergreen High School in September. Hamilton offered his resignation in lieu of termination following an internal affairs investigation. [Denver7]
🏓 Bummer News for Downtown Pickleballers
This city is pressing pause on plans to build outdoor pickleball courts next door to RTD’s Civic Center Station due to budget restrictions. The project, which was proposed last year, is expected to cost around $3-4 million. Officials said they are considering alternative options for the space. [Denver Gazette 🔒]
💔 LGBTQ Youth Nonprofit Robbed of $10K
Surveillance footage at Youth Seen shows a person breaking into the office on Nov. 30, vandalizing the building — causing $30-40K in damage — and making off with $10,000 in cash, an iPad, and the keys to a company vehicle. This comes after the organization was already struggling to stay afloat following the loss of roughly $800,000 in federal aid this year due to President Trump’s DEI funding cuts. [Denverite]
🏡 Which is Denver’s Friendliest Neighborhood?
A new ranking from Nextdoor touts Green Valley Ranch as the “Friendliest Place to Live in Denver.” The list was based on how residents interact with each other on the community social platform, judging by the positivity of posts and comments from users. According to the list, neighborhoods that are further away from the city center tend to be friendlier. [Westword]
