City Cast Denver

🚗 Is your neighborhood getting new parking rules?

September 30, 2025 · — Peyton Garcia

Hey there.

We believe that in order for Denver to thrive, we need to connect across our differences — and we at City Cast Denver try to foster that bridge.

Every day, we share stories to help you better understand your neighbors, celebrate what we all have in common, and learn more in the areas where we disagree.

When you become a City Cast Denver Neighbor, you’re helping us sustain that essential local conversation.

Plus, you’re getting access to members-only events where you can connect with your actual neighbors and keep the conversation going IRL. We think that’s pretty cool ✨

It’s the final week of our fall membership campaign, and I’m counting on my Hey Denver readers to step up and support this newsletter for just $10/month (or $100/year).

🎁 A reminder: When you join now, you automatically get one of these “Neighbors make Denver” tote bags AND you get the chance to win a $250 gift card to Bonanno Concepts, good at any of their restaurants — Mizuna, Luca, Osteria Marco, Salita, Dumplin’, or Vesper Lounge.

What's CITY Talking About?

🚘 New Parking Rules Coming to Your Neighborhood?

City officials are working to implement resident-friendly parking restrictions in areas of Cap Hill, Cherry Creek, the Highlands, and near Empower Field. New rules could include permits, parking meters, or parking time limits. [Denverite]

💰 City Slashes Rental Assistance Funding

Despite record-high eviction cases, the city is cutting its allocated rental assistance funds by $9 million while Mayor Johnston works to address the city’s $250 million budget deficit. The city’s housing department has ordered service providers to pause spending immediately while it reassesses its finances, leaving dozens of Denverites who are facing eviction in the lurch. Why the Mayor Is Closing Shelters, a Felon for Governor, and Rats at Larimer Square?

🍂 Leaf-Peepers Shut Down Georgetown

Over the weekend, Clear Creek Sheriff’s deputies were forced to turn away all non-residential traffic as tourists eager to witness the area’s legendary fall foliage created gridlock conditions on local streets. The town reopened after a few hours when the chaos died down. For one visitor who decided to wait out the closure in nearby Bailey, the wait was “worth every second.” [Denver7]

🇺🇸 A Felon for Governor

The governor’s race just got a little bit more interesting, as convicted felon Joshua Rodriguez threw his hat in the ring. He’s not a newcomer to politics, having previously run (unsuccessfully) for Arvada City Council, Arvada mayor, Congress and Senate in Colorado, and president of the United States. He was arrested for felony identity theft and a misdemeanor cybercrime during his congressional campaign in 2022. [Westword]

  • Meet the other candidates: Rodriguez is just one of 36 contenders running for governor.

💘 On ‘Love Is Blind’

The season of “Love Is Blind” that Netflix shot in Denver makes its on-air debut tomorrow! And that cast reveal was … something. Not sure if we’re more concerned for the guy who admits to eating boogers or the guy who likes chicken in a blender for breakfast 🫣 We had some thoughts, then you all had some thoughts, and we are ~here~ for the comments 👏

"I feel like this is Denver specific Ragebait. Like yes the options are bleak but where's the wook with the K problem? Where's the bicyclist with a drinking habit? Where's the aspiring musician?" — @lazwicky

"Chicken smoothie guy is definitely a serial killer" — @heyanntastic

"I'm already disappointed that these people do not look like the Denverites I'm around. No granola girlies?

All these Menver bros" — @brookygstone

"This is NOT going to reflect well on Denver" — @stewthebread

Excited? Catch the premiere at a local watch party 📺 🥳 We’ll be watching too! Let us know your thoughts 📧

🤤 On Roasted Green Chiles

It’s the most delicious time of year in Denver — roasted green chile season! We recently noticed that the King Soopers at Alameda and Wadsworth is selling pre-packaged, pre-roasted green chile bundles for $5. We prefer to get ours in Old Denver fashion — freshly roasted on the side of the road.

Ashley G. specifically recommends:

“Jesus on 4th and Federal (used to be 8th). He is the best! Two bundles for $50, roasted to order. Takes cash and Zelle. The problem with the grocery store ones is that they’re not skinned — so they’re steamed and then chilled, which makes it SO much harder to peel them than when they’re hot!”

Plus, lots of readers have recommended the family-owned and -operated Nick’s Garden Center & Farm Market in Aurora. (Which also has a great family-friendly pumpkin patch open right now!)
