What's CITY Talking About?

🏗️ Ball Arena Bridge Approved for Next Phase
This week, the Downtown Design Advisory Board agreed to advance plans for a pedestrian bridge that would connect Ball Arena to downtown by crossing over Speer Boulevard. Planners will now study how the bridge fits into Denver’s long-term vision for the area, which includes the development of a massive new retail district. [Westword]
🟢 A Remorseful Return for DoBetterDNVR
After deactivating both its X and Instagram accounts earlier this week, the anonymous online provocateur known by the handle DoBetterDNVR appears to have resurfaced, armed with an apology. The account — known for criticizing the Johnston administration and posting inflammatory photos of homelessness in Denver — apologized for previous personal attacks on Mayor Johnston and his wife and promised future online posts would be “accurate and constructive.” [DoBetterDNVR]

📱 Social Media’s Place in Local Politics
Is social media a necessary part of politics? Some Colorado congressional leaders say yes. But is it really about communication and healthy discourse? Or is it just a forum for threats and rage bait? [City Cast Denver 🎧]
🐾 DPS to Deploy Gun-Sniffing Dogs
Denver Public Schools will soon deploy a fleet of gun-sniffing dogs at select campuses as part of a pilot program to combat gun violence at school. The dogs will only be used at school sporting events. Details — like how many dogs, which schools, and funding costs — have not yet been released. [Denverite]
- Quantifiable results: Similar programs are popping up in school districts across the country. One in Dallas-Fort Worth seized 30 guns in a single school year. [NBC 5]

Where Is It?

Last week’s answer: This rock n’ roll lizard can be found along the Cherry Creek Trail under the Delgany Street bridge. Reader Alan B. says, “I like to think it’s one of the Lizard People who live under the airport, coming up for a special appearance at the last UMS show. In any case, it gives high school Trapper Keeper doodle vibes and I love it.”
(Psst! Know the artist? 🧑🎨 Let us know so we can give them a shoutout!)
👏 A round of applause for this week’s correct guessers:
- Brian P. was the first to write in with the correct answer!
- But Bill P. wasn't far behind!
- Plus, an extra special shoutout for Alan B. who submitted last week’s pic!
This Week’s Photo:

🕵️ Do YOU know where to find this grouping of silly street signs? Be among the first to respond with the right answer and you’ll get a special shoutout in next Friday’s newsletter!
✨ A special thanks to reader Laurie K. for sharing this week’s pic!
📸 Want to submit a photo? Send me a snapshot of somewhere in Denver, and I’ll consider it for an upcoming photo trivia segment!

Navigating Denver Real Estate
Q: Why is it that Mortgage Rates did not go down when the Federal Reserve cuts Interest Rates? -Andrew C.
A: Mortgage rates don’t always fall when the Fed cuts rates. They follow the bond market and sometimes even drop before a Fed cut when investors anticipate it. Understanding this helps explain why mortgage rates move differently from the Fed’s decisions.
