📱DoBetterDNVR quietly disappears

Good morning!
Today we’re kicking off our fall membership campaign. Because this newsletter is totally free, we need support from readers like you 🫵 to help keep it going. How? By becoming a City Cast Denver Neighbor!
We believe that better neighbors make better cities, and that’s why City Cast Denver makes it easy (and fun!) to be more engaged with life in the Mile High — from highlighting local businesses to informing you on important local issues.
For $10 a month (or $100 a year), you’ll support our local team that loves Denver as much as you do, while unlocking perks like members-only events and the chance to shout out your favorite local businesses right here in this newsletter. Think of it as another way City Cast helps you give and get more from our city.
So, can we count on you?
Plus, if you sign up during our fall campaign, we’ll send you our exclusive Neighbors Make Denver tote, so you can show off your support, loud and proud ⬇️

What's CITY Talking About?

😋 The Best Eats on Havana Street
When food writer Antony Bruno was tasked with eating at every restaurant along Havana Street, he had no idea what he was in for. So far, the food critic has tasted everything from Korean barbecue and ramen to tacos and kebabs, and he shares his thoughts on Aurora’s burgeoning culinary destination. [City Cast Denver 🎧]

📱 DoBetterDNVR Goes Dark
As of Tuesday morning, the DoBetterDNVR accounts on both Instagram and X had been deactivated with no explanation. The anonymous social media presence known for posting inflammatory images of people experiencing homelessness and drug use in Denver has become one of the loudest critics of Mayor Mike Johnston and amassed a large conservative following. - Who is DBD? Last month, reporters from The Denver Post attempted to identify the account’s administrators through open records requests. [Denver Post 🔒]
⚖️ ACLU of Colorado Sues ICE
The nonprofit legal organization has filed a lawsuit against immigration authorities seeking transparency for its plans to open a new detention facility in Hudson, Colorado. [Denver Gazette 🔒]
🍽️ Pete’s University Park Cafe is Closing
Another Denver dining stalwart is calling it quits citing the industry’s untenable economic conditions. The greasy spoon near DU’s campus is part of the legendary local restaurant repertoire of the late Pete Contos, which also includes East Colfax landmarks Pete’s Kitchen and Pete’s Satire Lounge. The restaurant’s last day will be Nov. 9. [Westword]
