🚌 Will RTD slash disability services?

August 1, 2025 · — Peyton Garcia

Good morning, Denver! FYI: Another anti-Trump protest is scheduled for Saturday on the steps of the State Capitol Building. It is one of many “Rage Against the Regime” rallies taking place across the nation this weekend, including several more along the Front Range. Denver’s event organizers expect attendance to be in the thousands 🪧

What's CITY Talking About?

🚌 RTD’s Disability Services Are Safe For Now

The RTD Board of Directors has instructed staff to reconsider proposed cuts to the agency’s Access-on-Demand paratransit service. The program serving Denverites with disabilities is so popular that the cost to run it has become unsustainable. Despite facing a major budget shortfall, the board doesn’t want to completely gut the service — which would price out many of the people who rely on the program — so they agreed to revisit the issue in September. • At the same time: During that same board meeting on Tuesday, members unanimously approved the renaming of RTD’s Civic Center Station to the Wade Blank Civic Center Station, in honor of the late Rev. Blank, a disability rights activist known for leading Denver’s “Gang of 19.” [Denverite]

🔎 Inside the Do Better Denver Drama

Local social media firebrand Do Better Denver recently made claims that The Denver Post was going to publish the names of the people behind the anonymous account. While that story has yet to materialize in the press, (at least not at the time this newsletter was published, that is) the anonymous entity has grown in both follower count and influence, becoming one of the loudest conservative voices in the discussion about crime in Denver. Navigating Denver Real Estate

Q - What should I do to prepare my home to sell if I plan to sell in the next 3 months?

-Adrienne C.

A - Declutter and deep clean early—you’re moving anyway. Tackle small repairs and consider paint or flooring if the budget allows; they offer the best return. Have an experienced agent walk through with you to help prioritize what matters most, saving time and money while making your home feel move-in ready.

Last week’s answer: You’ll find these Zero Service Vending machines in the LoHi neighborhood at 3121 Tejon Street. Inspired by the convenience and accessibility of a classic New York-style bodegas, they’re a one-stop-shop for almost anything you might need on the run — from grab-n-go lunch options to late-night nibbles, toiletry essentials to miscellaneous gadgets and gizmos.
