🎯 Trump targets Denver (again)

July 29, 2025 · — Peyton Garcia

Good morning, Denver! According to one recent analysis, Coors Field is a prime pick for surviving a zombie apocalypse thanks to its crop-ready soil, proximity to a natural water source, and structural fortifications.

But is there somewhere more zombie-proof? Where in Denver would YOU wait out an invasion of the undead? 🧟

⛽ The Price of Another Buc-ee’s

Despite overwhelming opposition from residents, Palmer Lake officials are willing to agree to plans for a 74,000-square-foot Buc-ee’s gas station if a few conditions are met, including:

  • Buc-ee’s would be financially responsible for all required roadway improvements
  • The town would collect 2% of a 3% sales tax
  • Buc-ee’s would provide a one-time community contribution of $350,000 to the town

🚫 What Trump’s Latest Move Means for Denver

President Trump’s latest executive order aims to bring an end to “crime and disorder on America’s streets” through involuntary civil commitment of the unhoused and people who use drugs. But Mile High City leaders and service providers have often used “housing first” policies and a harm reduction approach to serving people on Denver’s streets rather than institutionalization — so what could this order mean for Denverites? Tip of the Week: Watering Wisely

Guess who’s baaaack? (Denver Water/YouTube)

Who could forget Denver Water’s viral “Splashstreet Boys” music video last summer? The grin-inducing parody (“I Water That Way”) reminded Denverites about the city’s summer watering rules in an ear-wormy way that was sure to stick. Now, the Denver Water team is back with a new single, “Water Tuesday (Splashstreet’s Back)” encouraging residents to switch their sprinkler timers from Mondays and Wednesdays to Tuesdays and Thursdays in order to reduce the strain on Denver’s water distribution system. The song parodies Backstreet Boys’ famous “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)”. Water wisely, and enjoy 😂 🎤

Switching Your Sprinkler System

Under Denver’s summer watering rules, watering more than three days a week is prohibited. Most sprinkler systems are automatically set to run Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 5 a.m. Because of that default setting, Denver Water sees an enormous spike in demand at that time putting unnecessary strain on the city’s distribution system. To offset the pressure, Denver Water officials suggest manually scheduling your sprinklers to go off on Tuesdays and Thursdays before 3 a.m.
