What's CITY Talking About?
🎤 The State of the City is…
Mayor Mike Johnston delivered his “State of the City” address last night, touting the work his administration has done to decrease unsheltered homelessness and homicides in the city. The speech was light on specific plans, but he alluded to possible future investments at the National Western Center, making DIA carbon-neutral, and his hope to reach a long-term deal to keep the Broncos in Denver. 💰 Dark Money in the Governor’s Race
Sen. Michael Bennet’s gubernatorial campaign is getting a boost from a new super PAC that formed in April, according to the Colorado Sun. The group has raised nearly $950,000 so far, primarily from pro-charter school groups and a nonprofit that doesn’t have to disclose its donors — often called “dark money.” [Colorado Sun]

🚲 Does the Mayor Actually Want Bike Lanes?
Has Mayor Johnston changed his mind about bike lanes? His recent comments on cycling infrastructure on Denver’s streets don’t exactly align with what he told bike advocates when he was on the campaign trail in 2023. [City Cast Denver 🎧]
🧑⚖️ Colorado’s Immigration Judge Crisis
Colorado immigration courts are losing some of the judges in charge of overseeing a backlog of more than 73,000 pending cases. Two Denver judges have accepted the Trump administration’s separation offer and Trump administration officials fired one based at the ICE facility in Aurora. [CBS Colorado]
🛒 King Soopers Closing in Centennial
After its merger with Albertson’s was rejected, King Soopers’ parent company Kroger announced last month that it would be closing 60 stores across the country due to “financial strategy and low profitability.” Now we know that the King Soopers at 5050 East Arapahoe Road made the list. [Westword]
