🏀 Nuggets Fire Coach Malone

In a move that stunned fans and NBA insiders, the Denver Nuggets have fired head coach Michael Malone and won’t renew general manager Calvin Booth’s contract. Despite Malone coaching the team for 10 years and leading them to their only NBA championship, Nuggets owner Josh Kroenke says “this wasn’t a decision that was taken lightly or taken in a reactionary fashion to anything specific.” [ESPN, Nuggets via Instagram]

💰 Tariffs Causing Economic Upheaval

Along with the rest of the country, Denverites are reeling from President Donald Trump’s tariffs as the markets plummet and many economists are predicting a recession. The tariffs will likely lead to higher prices on everything from cars to beer and are expected to impact local industries like agriculture, tech, and clothing companies. [Reuters, Axios Denver]

🗳️ Jena Griswold Running for Attorney General

Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold will run for attorney general in 2026, hoping to replace Phil Weiser, who is running for governor. Griswold is known for her efforts to fight election conspiracies spread by President Donald Trump, investigating former Mesa County clerk Tina Peters for election fraud, and her office’s own recent controversy where voting machine passwords were left unsecured. Spotted Around Town

We love when we spot something cool/weird/wacky around Denver. Like this boney couple who look like they’ve been waiting for the construction on 16th Street Mall to finish.

While it may seem like the efforts to spruce up 16th Street have been going on forever, city officials say the construction should wrap up this fall. In the meantime, the city recently invested $1.5 million in events and art installations to draw foot traffic downtown this summer, as well as another $1.6 million for a sculptural metal “canopy of leaves” resembling aspen trees. This comes as projections for the Mall’s total renovation costs are now estimated to be more than $175 million.

Have you seen something quirky or curious around town recently? We’d love to see it, too.
