What's CITY Talking About?

📉 What’s Wrong With Colorado’s Economy?
New data shows that the state’s economy is not as hot as it was 10 years ago, with our annual growth slipping from the top 5 states to barely above average. What’s that mean for the Mile High? And does it have anything to do with Gov. Jared Polis’ latest slapstick stunt? [City Cast Denver 🎧]

🏠 Denver’s Last Newcomer Shelter to Close
Now that the flow of newcomers has slowed, the City of Denver is planning to close its last dedicated emergency shelter at the end of the year. It’s unclear what the Archdiocese will do with West Highland’s Mullen Home, while new arrivals in need will instead enter the homeless shelter system. [Denverite]
⛽ Lakewood Considers Gas Station Cap
Lakewood City Council will take its final vote on an ordinance next month that would limit the number of gas stations permitted within city boundaries in order to cut “noxious emissions and chemical runoff.” [Denver Post 🔒]
- In Denver: City officials in the Mile High are discussing a similar, but less aggressive limit that would ban the construction of new gas stations in certain areas. That proposal is set to go before the Denver Planning Board tomorrow. [City Cast Denver 🎧]

📸 One more thing: Remember the bronze gargoyle statue at DIA that I featured for Friday Photo Trivia a few weeks ago? We want to make sure the artist, Terry Allen, gets a proper shoutout! 🎉 🎨
Fun fact: The statues were commissioned as part of the Denver Public Art program and were placed in DIA’s baggage claim to protect travelers’ luggage 🙂 🧳 Learn more!
