November 21, 2024 · — Peyton Garcia
Good morning! Some Thursday morning civic engagement for those living in Athmar Park, Ruby Hill, Overland, Westwood, and Mar Lee: City officials are seeking community input for the Southwest Area Plan — a neighborhood planning initiative to help shape the vision for the area's future. The surveys close Nov. 25 ✏️

What's CITY Talking About?

We never clock out. We wait. We eat, sleep and breathe this movement. ... You can continue to sell [foie gras], and if you do, there will soon be an open campaign against you.
🦆 Protesters Target Denver Restaurants
A group of protesters known for using especially disruptive tactics is waging war on Denver restaurants serving foie gras — a luxury menu item that has long sparked animal welfare debates. The group has successfully had the item removed from the menus of multiple Denver restaurants, including Uchi and Glo Noodle House. And they aren’t planning to stop until they’ve hit “every single restaurant that sells foie gras in the greater Denver area.” [Westword]
- Temperature check: It’s unclear how Denverites might feel about the topic, considering voters handily rejected the two proposed ballot initiatives centered on animal welfare — a slaughterhouse ban and a fur ban 🤔
🚉 Polis Announces New Transit Vision
Gov. Jared Polis unveiled grand new plans for statewide transit this week. Under an initiative he’s dubbed “Vision 2035,” the governor hopes to double down on transit reform policies — think: building more pedestrian-centered infrastructure and increasing bus and train services — with the goal of significantly reducing Coloradans’ reliance on cars over the next decade. [CPR]
- Looking at you, RTD: The governor specifically called out the state’s transit agency for “significantly lagging behind” its peers across the nation 👀
