What's CITY Talking About?

🛬 Trump in Town Today

Just a reminder that former president/current Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is making good on his promise to visit Aurora today in order to scope out the city’s alleged “gang takeover” for himself. He will be hosting a rally at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center this afternoon. [Westword]

  • Popularity check: Trump has never had enough support to win over the Centennial state. Critics believe the visit is just a campaign tactic to forward the narrative of an immigration crisis. [Axios Denver]

🧑‍⚖️ City Spares Embattled Aurora Apartment Buildings

Speaking of the Aurora gang hysteria, the City will not condemn two of the apartment complexes that initially sparked controversy. Instead, a judge will hand full control over to a court-appointed third party after property owners defaulted on roughly $9 million in loans. Officials hope the new controller will “finally address the longstanding issues” at the apartment buildings. [Denver Post 🔒]

  • Get caught up: What’s actually going on with the gang situation in Aurora? Here’s what we know. [Hey Denver]
CO’s Tightest Race Heats Up, Trump’s Visit, and Ink! Coffee Goes Bankrupt

🤔 Why Did Ink! Coffee Really Go Under?

Ink! Coffee filed for bankruptcy this week. Several years ago, the company made international headlines for a marketing blunder that brought protests, boycotts, and tough conversations about gentrification. Was it the old controversy or current market forces that caused the local coffee chain's demise in 2024? [City Cast Denver 🎧]

Where Is It?

Last week’s answer: This colorful wall art can be seen 701 E. Colfax Ave. across the street from Slice Works and Argonaut Wine & Liquor. It was part of the City’s Vision Zero Community Art Project in 2018 to help raise awareness about Denver’s Vision Zero project to end traffic fatalities and serious injuries. The piece was designed by local artist Pat Milbery with input from Denver’s East High art students.
