What's CITY Talking About?
🐑 EPA Fines Contested Slaughterhouse $119,200
The EPA announced that it has found “several” Clean Air Act violations at Superior Farms, the city’s only slaughterhouse. Superior Farms is also the sole target of a proposed ban Denverites will be voting on in November that could end operations of slaughterhouses within the city of Denver. [Westword]
🤑 $22M Already Spent Courting Your Vote
Supporters and opponents of the 12 local initiatives on Denver ballots have already spent more than $22 million on campaigns, according to new campaign finance data. The best-funded causes so far are the campaign to stop the citywide slaughterhouse ban, with about $738,000, and the supporters of a sales tax hike to increase funding for Denver Health, who have contributed over $800,000. 🌇 Aurora May Close Two More Apartment Complexes
Aurora police are primed to condemn two Aurora apartment complexes unless building management takes “quick and immediate steps” to address crime and deterioration. The owners, CBZ Management, set off a national hysteria over the summer when they claimed that these complexes were being “taken over” by a Venezuelan gang. [Denver Post 🔒]
