What's CITY Talking About?

👻 Can Someone Save the Broadway Halloween Parade?
Attendance has grown so much in recent years that city officials are requiring parade organizers to pay as much as $25,000 for pedestrian safety barricades this year, and they need the money by Sept. 6. Some Baker neighbors are worried the need for a sponsor may be the beginning of the end of the parade’s DIY feel. [Westword]
🤝 State Lawmakers Reach Property Tax Compromise
While some progressive Democrats objected, state legislators approved a compromise in proposed property tax cut legislation yesterday, ending this week’s special legislative session. Conservative supporters of a much larger cut are expected to pull their measure from November’s ballot. [CO Sun]

😎 Is Englewood the New South Broadway?
Mutiny Information Cafe and Fancy Tiger have pulled up stakes and joined Brewability, Army Surplus, and other mainstay businesses in Englewood. But why are all these Broadway stalwarts moving south? Turns out there are some very real changes driving the vibe shift. [City Cast Denver 🎧]
⚠️ Racist Signs Appear at Colfax Bus Stops
Denver police are looking for the people who riveted metal signs featuring racist slogans to three Colfax bus stops near Congress Park. The signs, which have been removed, said, “Blacks must sit at the back of the bus. Kamala’s migrants sit in the front.” [Westword]
