What's CITY Talking About?

🇺🇸 Two Terms is Enough for Hickenlooper
After the Democratic Party’s reckoning over President Joe Biden’s age, Colorado Sen. John Hickenlooper recently said he will NOT seek a third term in the Senate if he wins a second in 2026. The former Colorado governor and Denver mayor, now 72, would be 80 years old in 2032. [Denver Post 🔒]
🚔 Aurora Gets (Another) New Police Chief
Aurora City Council is poised to confirm a brand new police chief — the department’s fifth acting chief in two years. Todd Chamberlain, formerly with the LAPD, will be tasked with correcting course after years of public distrust, internal controversy, and a long pattern of “racially biased policing.” [CPR]
🚧 New Traffic Patterns On York Street
Commuters on York Street between 18th and 40th streets should be prepared for some major traffic changes next month. As part of Denver’s ongoing efforts to reduce traffic-related deaths and injuries, construction is underway to reduce the long stretch of road from four lanes to only one in each direction and a single center turn lane. ❄️ Is It Time To Reconsider Denver’s Reliance on AC?
Students returned to hot, sweaty classrooms across Denver this week, with 29 public schools still lacking air conditioning. DPS leaders have a plan they’re putting in front of voters in the fall, but is now the right time to reconsider how much our architecture, urban planning, and relationships rely on AC? Last Week’s Winner

The answer to last week’s clue: Rosales Mexican Bakery!
🏅 Congrats to Gene R., who solved the riddle and was the winner of last week’s raffle! We asked Gene to share some of the things they love most about biking in Denver.
What’s your favorite thing about biking in Denver?
“I commuted on the Cherry Creek Trail for years, so it has to get the main mention. Things could always be better, but trails like Cherry Creek and Highline make biking around Denver way fun, and it's good to appreciate the good things. I like the trails, and I like using them to get to the carbs.”
🤤 Craving a churro now? Take the official Bike Streets cyclist-friendly route to Rosales 👇 The Bike Streets mobile app offers quiet, scenic, routes on residential streets to get you around Denver. Join the Bike Streets Club now.
