June 20, 2024 · — Peyton Garcia
It’s Thursday! And we’re one day closer to this weekend’s Pride festivities! Speaking of which, I have an important correction: In Tuesday’s Guide to Denver Pride, I misstated the date of the parade. It kicks off at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. Have fun! 🏳️🌈

What's CITY Talking About?
📚 Barnes & Noble to Buy Tattered Cover
Following years of financial turmoil, beloved local bookstore chain Tattered Cover has agreed to sell to Barnes & Noble for $1.8 million. All four Tattered Cover locations will continue to operate under the TC name, with the goal of retaining all or most of its current employees. [Denverite]
🌭 Biker Jim Leaves Biker Jim’s
After nearly two decades of slinging exotic hot dogs, “Biker Jim” Pittenger is parting ways with his popular namesake business, Biker Jim’s Gourmet Dogs, citing a soured relationship with the man he brought on as CEO in 2020. [Westword]

None of what he promised came to fruition, and I gave control and ownership of Biker Jim’s away for nothing.
🏡 A Plan to House People Faster
Denver City Council has greenlit a $5 million contract with nonprofit Housing Connector to work directly with landlords to move people living on the streets straight into housing — no temporary shelter stays in between. The new program is part of Mayor Johnston’s All In Mile High housing initiative. [Denverite]
🎢 What Came Before the Cyclone and the Twister
It’s rollercoaster season! While classic amusement parks Elitch Gardens and Lakeside provide summer fun in current day Denver, more than a hundred years ago, there was Manhattan Beach on Sloans Lake, a trailblazing entertainment destination. [City Cast Denver 🎧]
