What's CITY Talking About?
🔎 State Senate Launches Ethics Investigation
The Colorado Senate is launching an official ethics investigation into Democratic State Sen. Faith Winter following a complaint filed by Northglenn City Council last month. The council agreed unanimously that Winter failed to “uphold her office with integrity” after she arrived at a public meeting apparently intoxicated. The investigation will determine if Winter’s actions were indeed a breach of ethics and what repercussions, if any, she should face. [CPR]
🏥 Can New Sales Tax Save a Sinking Denver Health?
Colorado’s only “safety net hospital” offering care to uninsured patients is sounding the alarm on a growing concern — uncompensated care is skyrocketing and there isn’t enough money to cover it. Denver Health is asking City Council to consider a .34% sales tax increase that could generate nearly $70 million in funds annually. Should council approve the proposal, it would then go to voters in the fall. [Denverite]
I will tell you that right now, there isn't a path out of where we are right now except for service cuts.

Where Is It?

Last week’s answer: You can find this incredible work of art from local muralist Anna Charney on a parking garage for The HUB, next door to Slater’s 50/50 in RiNo.
- Anna says: "This mural is a good example of my abstract, pattern-based style that you can find all over Denver. Recently, I’ve been incorporating more organic forms and oceanic references to my bending and flowing compositions, which are included in this work. This mural is actually an update/re-do to an older artwork I had painted on that wall in 2018, and was an exciting opportunity for me to show my years of artistic progression in the RiNo Art District."
Hats off to our only correct guesser this week:
- Maren S. knew the location and the artist 👏 But to be fair, it turns out Anna is her cousin 😉
- A special thanks to Hey Denver reader Steph D. for sending in last week’s pic.
