What's CITY Talking About?

🕊️ Remembering ‘Los Seis de Boulder’

This week marks 50 years since two horrific car bombings killed six young Chicano activists / CU Boulder students at the height of the Chicano Civil Rights Movement. Today, the City of Boulder is dedicating a brand new public art installation to commemorate the slain students who’ve become known as “Los Seis de Boulder.” [Axios Denver]

  • Attend the event: The dedication will take place today from 6-7 p.m. at 17th and Pearl streets in Boulder.

📢 Dems Declare ‘Shame on Polis’

Gov. Jared Polis is receiving blowback from members of his own party after he vetoed three workers rights bills proposed by Democratic lawmakers. Hundreds of people joined leading Dems at a rally on the Capitol steps last Thursday where they chanted “shame on Polis” and donned shirts that read “Polis failed workers.” [CPR]

⚰️ CO Finally Imposes Funeral Home Regulations

Funeral home directors and other professionals in the mortuary science industry will now be required to obtain proper certifications and licenses per a pair of bills signed into law by the governor on Friday. The monumental move, which brings Colorado up to speed with the rest of the nation, follows a series of recent incidents of corpse abuse, fraud, and the illegal sale of body parts. [Denver Post 🔒]

🎫 CO Joins Live Nation Lawsuit

Colorado has joined a massive federal lawsuit gaining traction against concert promoter Live Nation Entertainment / Ticketmaster. So far 30 states and Washington D.C. have joined the Department of Justice to sue the corporate giant for what they’re calling an illegal monopoly of the live events sector that is hurting consumers, venue owners, and artists. 🏛️ Inside City Council

From Denver’s approach to homelessness to the Auraria Campus protests to low approval ratings for the city’s elected officials, there’s a lot on Denverites’ minds right now. City Council at-large members Serena Gonzales-Gutierrez and Sarah Parady share what they are hearing from constituents. [City Cast Denver 🎧]

City Council Members Talk Protest Arrests, Low Approval Ratings, and Wage Theft

A recent survey of Denverites found that both the mayor’s office and city council’s approval ratings are below 50%. But councilwomen at-large Sarah Parady and Serena Gonzales-Gutierrez say there’s some crucial context missing from the data. Plus, they touch on the arrests at the anti-war protests on Auraria Campus, what they think about the governor’s labor rights bill veto, and more issues across the Mile High.

That’s all for today! ✌️
