What's CITY Talking About?
🐺 Four More Wolf Attacks
Colorado wildlife officials have confirmed four more cattle deaths in Grand County were the result of an attack by wolves. This brings the total count of wolf-related livestock losses in Colorado to five since officials released a group of the predators into the wild in December as part of a highly controversial wolf reintroduction plan. [CPR]
- Why it matters: Attacks on livestock are exactly why the reintroduction plan was so staunchly contested by most Colorado ranchers and farmers. Back before the release, in December 2022, we examined the proposal from all sides. [City Cast Denver 🎧]
🚲 Cherished Bike Tradition Canceled
Ride the Rockies Bicycle Tour, a Colorado cycling tradition of nearly 40 years, has been canceled for 2024 due to a “lack of interest.” In its best years, the six-day ride across the Rocky Mountains saw over 2,000 participants. [Denver Post 🔒]
🧑✈️ Rockies Coach Violates FAA Rules
The Federal Aviation Authority is investigating an incident involving two United Airlines pilots and Colorado Rockies hitting coach Hensley Meulens. A video posted to social media shows Meulens sitting in a pilot’s seat while the aircraft was flying on autopilot. Unauthorized persons in the flight deck is a violation of federal safety regulations. [Denver Post 🔒]
😵💫 More on the Meow Wolf Layoffs
Of the 111 laid off Meow Wolf staffers across the company (originally projected at 165), 50 were employees at the Denver location, including creative operators, security, and IT. Meow Wolf management says the cuts are an effort to “right-size” the business. Meow Wolf union leaders say the company is “choosing to continue its pattern of not bargaining in good faith.” [Denverite]
- Dig deeper: We unpacked the Meow Wolf layoffs and what it possibly signals for the immersive art company’s future. (Timestamp: ~4 min) [City Cast Denver 🎧]
