What's CITY Talking About?

🚫 Next Steps for ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban

Following four hours of debate, a hot-button bill that would enact a statewide ban on the purchase, sale, and transfer of most semiautomatic firearms cleared the Colorado House on Sunday. The measure now heads to the State Senate, but despite a Democratic majority, even most advocates are skeptical it will find enough support to make it to the governor’s desk. [CO Sun]

👀 Resolution in Local Restaurant Dispute

Denver foodies have been closely watching the legal battle play out between large local restaurant chain My Neighbor Felix and the newly opened Alma Fonda Fina. 🏠 No More Roommate Restrictions

Beginning July 1, local governments will no longer be allowed to dictate how many unrelated roommates can share a home (unless it presents a health and safety hazard or violates affordable housing guidelines). The change is part of a bill Gov. Polis signed into law yesterday that largely eliminates “outdated” occupancy limit laws statewide. [Denver Post]

👮 Shelter Security Concerns Continue

After multiple shootings at Denver’s hotels-turned-shelters, the mayor is openly questioning the security situation. With the City now providing security at the DoubleTree where the shootings occurred, The Denver Post reports that shelter operator Salvation Army could lose hundreds of thousands dollars from its $10 million operating contract.
