What's CITY Talking About?
⚖️ What’s Next for Auon’tai Anderson
Now that former school board vice president Auon’tai Anderson’s time with the district is over, the 25-year-old begins his campaign for state legislature, running in the Democratic primary against five other candidates. Much like in his time with the school board, Anderson’s policy priorities will focus on assault weapons bans and LGBTQ rights. [Axios Denver]
🚨 Johnston Keeps Hancock’s Public Safety Picks
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston has recommended keeping Chief Desmond G. Fulton and Sheriff Elias Diggins at the helm of the Denver Fire Department. A few weeks ago, the mayor also re-appointed the city’s current police chief and public safety director. If approved by City Council, Johnston will maintain the full slate of public safety leaders picked by his predecessor Michael Hancock. [Denverite]
🇲🇽 Aurora Announces New Sister City
Last week, Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman spent five days in Chihuahua, Mexico, finalizing the details that would make it Aurora’s fourth sister city (alongside cities in South Korea, El Salvador, and Ethiopia). The mayor said Aurora’s largest immigrant community is from Chihuahua. [9News]
🛏️ Denver’s Housing Needs Grows Dire
As the weather turns cold and the need for shelter becomes increasingly crucial, migrant arrivals begin to clash with the mayor’s goal to house 1,000 people already living unsheltered on Denver streets. [City Cast Denver 🎧]
