💰 Who benefits from the new tax package?
November 22, 2023
Good morning! The City Cast Denver team will be taking the rest of the week off to celebrate the holiday. We will return with your regularly scheduled newsletter and podcast Monday, Nov. 27! 🦃

What's CITY Talking About?
📜 What Happened in Special Session?
Gov. Jared Polis signed off on a six-bill tax relief package Monday as state lawmakers concluded a four-day special legislative session. The package will largely benefit the low-income Coloradans “who need it the most,” Polis said. The biggest changes worth noting include “flat” TABOR refunds, expanded Earned Income Tax Credits, and reduced property tax rates. [CPR]
🦃 Polis Pardons Turkeys
To celebrate Thanksgiving and Colorado’s robust agricultural industry, Gov. Polis hosted the state’s first ever Thanksgiving turkey pardon (imitating a longtime White House tradition) at the Governor's Residence at Boettcher Mansion. Four turkeys — which Polis and his family named Gus, Maple, Pumpkin, and Matilda — will not end up on anyone’s dinner table this Thanksgiving, but will spend the rest of their days roaming free at Erie’s Luvin Arms Animal Sanctuary. 🛏️ Where Will Denver’s Migrants Go?
The ongoing migrant crisis has put a lot of pressure on city services as busloads of people seeking asylum continue to show up in Denver weekly. So what’s happening with these makeshift shelter spaces and where are folks ending up? [City Cast Denver 🎧]
