✨ Imagine a more walkable Colfax
November 2, 2023
Good morning, Denver! If you missed the life-sized haunted puppet show on Newton street this Halloween, don’t worry — the man behind the magic, Johnny Lee Sandoval, says you’ll still be able to catch it next year and every October after that as far as he’s concerned 👻

What's CITY Talking About?
📞 Denver Aims to Improve 911 Response Times
Denver’s 911 call center is testing out new tech that will hopefully improve response times. The new software allows dispatchers to send callers a text requesting permission to pull location info directly from their cell phones. Callers can also start a video stream with operators. [9News]
- Why it matters: Denver’s 911 call centers have been under increased scrutiny since the 2022 murder of Ma Kaing when community members pointed to an apparent lapse in communication with emergency responders as a contributing factor in her death. [City Cast Denver 🎧]
🚶 Imagining a More Pedestrian Friendly Colfax
A city council committee passed a rezoning proposal for a stretch of Colfax Avenue that would block certain car-centric businesses (like drive-thrus and gas stations) from opening as the city gears up to bring a brand new bus line to the street. The full council will consider the proposal in a few weeks. [Denverite]
🔊 Denver Students Demand Safety
Hundreds of students at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Early College walked out of class on Tuesday in a protest to demand better safety measures from the district. The walkout followed a recent incident in which four people attacked a student without apparent provocation outside the school. According to the family of the victim, school officials didn’t reach out to them regarding the attack. [Denver7]

Japanese Food Old and New, the Rise of Bodegas, and Cozy Vibes
Allegedly Denver’s oldest Japanese restaurant is closing, while a brand new one is promising to bring something spectacular to the Highlands. Also, can neighborhood markets survive in a place like Denver?
That’s all for today! Thanks for sticking with me 🫶
