🏠 Inside the plans for Denver’s first micro-community

October 12, 2023

Good morning, Denver! We made it to Thursday! Why do short weeks always feel the longest?

What's CITY Talking About?

🏠 Details on First Micro-Community Released

The city is prepared to break ground on Denver’s first “micro-community” site at 2301 S. Santa Fe Drive. According to concept plans, the gated site will host 112 tiny homes, plus two community buildings. There will be restrooms, communal kitchens, on-site laundry, trash pick-up, 24/7 staffing, and other support services. [Denverite]

🚨 Officers Who Killed Jor’Dell Richardson Return to Work

Last month, Arapahoe County prosecutors determined that the Aurora police officers who fatally shot 14-year-old Jor’Dell Richardson in June were legally justified in their actions. The officers in question did not face any criminal charges, and now they will not face discipline from their employer either. Following an internal investigation, the Aurora Police Department has decided the officers did not violate department policies and they have returned to full duty. [CO Sun; CPR]

🔎 Racial Hostility Allegations at CU Boulder

Last month at the University of Colorado Boulder, two graduate students began circulating a public letter alleging a racially hostile work environment for the school’s women professors of color. In the letter, the authors and dozens of supporters document instances of harassment, bullying, and public attacks against women of color on staff. One week after the document was publicized, the school’s dean stepped down. A CU spokesperson told CPR the school acknowledges it “has work to do on improving the climate for its faculty of color.” [CPR]

  • A stark contrast: These allegations of racism against university staff and faculty of color is a startling juxtaposition to the conversations happening around CU head football coach Deion “Prime Time” Sanders and the impact he’s having on the Black culture in Boulder. [City Cast Denver 🎧; CNN]
