❄️ How Much Will Your Heater Cost You This Winter?

Temperatures outside are trending down, which means your energy bill will likely start trending up. Xcel Energy officials estimate the average residential heating bill in Colorado will spike about 15% this year for the months of October through December. But the good news is that’s still about 35% lower than the average for that time last year. Assuming the weather remains predictable, home energy bills are expected to come out to an average of $86 per month — about $45 less than last year. [Denver Post 🔒]

👋 So Long, Original Quiznos

The location of the very first Quiznos sandwich shop (established in 1981, as the storefront sign proudly announces) is set to become David Nails & Beauty. The restaurant on East 13th Avenue and Grant Street was closed in April for nonpayment of taxes, but had hopes of an eventual reopening. Now, a Quiznos spokesperson reports that the brand’s focus is “on growth opportunities.” [9News]

🚫 If Kaiser Employees Go on Strike …

Contract negotiations between union reps and Kaiser Permanente continue to make slow progress ahead of the current contract’s Sept. 30 expiration date. Union employees want better wages, hiring practices, and bonus policies. If demands aren’t met, 3,000 of Kaiser’s Colorado-based nurses, lab techs, and other hospital staff are prepared to launch a three-day walkout on Oct. 4, disrupting care service for half a million Colorado Kaiser patients.
