What's CITY Talking About?
🏠 A New Kind of Sweep?
The city has announced plans for another homeless encampment sweep to take place tomorrow in the Cap Hill neighborhood. This will be the third one since new Mayor Mike Johnston took office. City workers will clear out roughly 70 people currently living on the corner of East 8th Avenue and Logan Street. However, this sweep is expected to be different from Johntson’s previous two, as it will be the first one accompanied by offers of temporary shelter at a hotel — something Johnston promised he would do that his predecessor did not. - What happened at the last sweep? We discussed Johnston’s first sweep as mayor — how it went and how it compared to a Hancock sweep — in this recent episode of the City Cast Denver podcast.
🏓 Denver Woman to Compete on Pickleball Reality Show
One of the most contentious topics facing Denver communities right now? Pickleball. As neighbors duke it out over sound ordinances and tennis courts, one devoted local pickleball player is hoping to restore some peace by potentially opening a brand new indoor pickleball business in the city. Denver resident Tiffany Ash will be competing on a new reality TV show, “Pickleball Paddle Battle,” (rundate and network TBA) for the rights to a franchise deal with Pickleball Kingdom, an Arizona-based indoor pickleball facility.
