🚩 Aurora ICE Center Raises More Red Flags

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) processing facility in Aurora has been under scrutiny for years, with auditors noting an ā€œunsafe environmentā€ for detainees. Recently, red flags were raised once more after NPR reporters obtained the recording of a confusing seven-minute 911 call for a detainee experiencing a medical emergency. The recording shows an obvious lack of emergency response training on the part of facility staff, which some argue ultimately led to the death of the detainee. [CPR]

  • 🚩 Similar: Also under scrutiny is the Adams County Police Academy, the state’s largest law enforcement training program. Officials have found an ā€œunprofessional and dangerousā€ culture that fosters hazing and abuse. [CPR]

āš•ļø Medical Board Casts Doubts on ā€˜Abortion Reversal’ Pill

Abortion rights groups have been waiting with bated breath for the state medical board’s ruling on the legitimacy of the so-called ā€œabortion reversalā€ pill. Back in April, Gov. Polis attempted to make Colorado the first state in the nation to ban the prescription of the pill, but a federal judge temporarily blocked the ban while state medical boards considered the legitimacy of the procedure. Last week, health officials did not rule in favor of an outright ban, but did say the pill was not a ā€œgenerally accepted standard of practice,ā€ and so all uses of the pill will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
