🏓 Glendale pickleball outlaws
August 9, 2023
Howdy, Denver! And good morning to Hank the Tank, the black bear — and prolific home bandit — who’s been relocated from California to Colorado’s Wild Animal Sanctuary because she broke into too many houses.

What's CITY Talking About?
🏓 Glendale Pickleballers Could Be in Trouble
Glendale is preparing to enact an ordinance that would bar people from placing any “temporary or permanent marks or lines” on existing tennis courts, addressing one of the ways many pickleball players make do with the lack of infrastructure in cities struggling to keep up with the popular sport’s demand. The new ordinance would also prohibit the use of chairs on courts and the shoveling of snow by players during the winter, which can damage the playing surface. Glendale City Council is expected to make a final decision on these new regulations next week. [Denver Post 🔒]
🚽 Denver Buys Port-a-Potties for Encampments
The city has purchased three portable restrooms from the company Honey Pot that it plans to install on sidewalks near encampments starting as early as next week, as part of the Johnston administration’s efforts to provide hygiene services to residents. The mobile facilities are typically rented, but the city opted to buy this lot at $2,900 each so they can be equipped with additional amenities like needle disposal and trash cans. [Denverite]
🚨 Evergreen Predator Believed to Be Caught
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says it arrested a suspect they believe to be responsible for a string of sexual assaults on hiking trails in the Evergreen area. The capture happened after two women reported separate incidents of a man exposing himself. Officers searched the area and allegedly engaged in a short foot chase before apprehending the suspect.
