✨ Mayor Mike vibe check
July 18, 2023
Hey, Denver! It’s Tío Adrian González filling in for Peyton. It won’t be as hot today as it was yesterday, but it’s close. If you need a place to cool off, all city recreation centers and most public libraries are operating as free cooling centers.

What's CITY Talking About?
🤑 Taylor Swift Boosts Denver’s Economy
Being a Swiftie may be bad for your bank account, but it’s great for the local economy. The pop icon’s “Eras Tour” swept through Denver over the weekend and made an estimated $140 million worth of economic impact to Colorado’s GDP. [The Colorado Sun]
🚔 Be Careful Where You Dispose of Your License Plates
Manuel Diego Soza innocently tossed his old Texas license plate in the garbage at a Westminster AutoZone earlier this year and was later met by police officers at his home, claiming he was responsible for a burglary at a nearby Walmart. Soza was arrested and charged, but the prosecutor’s office has filed a motion to dismiss the case. Soza (who identifies as Hispanic) and his attorneys say this was a case of racial profiling and plan to sue the Westminster Police Department. [Denver Post 🔒]
🥩 Local Beef Jerky Company Bounces Back
Perky Jerky, originally founded in Greenwood Village in 2017, seemed destined for a shutdown when it filed for bankruptcy in 2021. That is until Littleton-based food company 2Bold Brands bought it out and picked up the pieces. The company announced that it is relaunching the Perky Jerky brand and selling it at Sprouts Farmers Market locations beginning in September. [Denver Business Journal 🔒]
✨ There’s a New Mayor in Town!
