🎨 Guess who paid for that epic Nuggets mural?
June 20, 2023
Good morning, Denver! I hope you all had a good (long!) weekend. Let’s get into this week’s news 👇

What's CITY Talking About?
🚔 DPS Board Brings Cops Back to Schools
After weeks of debates and delays, the Denver school board voted 4-3 last Thursday to bring school resource officers (SROs) back into schools. This reverses a 2020 decision to ban cops from Denver campuses. Superintendent Alex Marrero will work with the Denver Police Department to determine which schools will get officers and to ensure they’re following district policy and best practices. Critics warn this is returning to an “oppressive system.” [Chalkbeat]
🎨 Who Paid For That Awesome Nuggets Mural?
If you’ve been near Colfax and Race Street recently, you couldn’t miss the epic Denver Nuggets mural from beloved local artist Thomas “Detour” Evans. It’s big, it’s beautiful, and it depicts our 2023 NBA hometown heroes in vibrant color and detail. But a recent GoFundMe circulating local internet circles reveals that Detour self-funds a lot of his work around the city. So a friend of the artist is asking for contributions to help support the man behind the murals that define so much of Denver.
