June 8, 2023

Good morning, Denver! Want something cool to contribute to your next Nuggets convo? Impress your peeps with these interesting trivia tidbits about each player on the team 🏀

What's CITY Talking About?

🤘 A Sound Solution to Number Thirty Eight’s Noise Problems?

RiNo music venue Number Thirty Eight and nearby residents have been duking it out since 2021 over sound violations and noise ordinances. After nearly two years of court hearings and complaints, the venue and the city appear to have reached a set of conditions that will address neighbor concerns while still letting the venue host live music. ⛺ A Big Win for Sanctioned Campsites

City Council voted 12-1 Monday night to make Denver’s Safe Outdoor Space program permanent. The program sets up sanctioned campsites throughout the city for people experiencing homelessness. Additionally, sites can now lease a space for up to four years (rather than just a few months) and the 30-tent capacity cap has been lifted. [Denverite]

📽️ Metro Denver Bids Goodbye to Final Drive-In Theater

Commerce City’s 88 Drive-In is the last remaining drive-in theater in the metro area (the next nearest is in Fort Collins), and now it’s announced plans to close. The family that has owned and operated the cinema attraction since 1976 has decided the property would better serve the growing community as a multi-tenant warehouse space. The owner assured heartbroken fans “this decision was not made lightly.” [Westword]

🙌 Crazy Horse Returns to Colfax

If you’ve been around Denver long enough, you might remember the iconic, Googie-style neon sign that once decorated East Colfax: “Crazy Horse Bar.” The infamous strip club closed down in the ‘80s, but the establishment’s spirit is being revived in the form of a brand new restaurant dubbed Crazy Horse Kitchen + Bar. So we sat down with the owner of the new Crazy Horse to talk about the myths and magic of Colfax Avenue. [City Cast Denver 🎧]

Amid Colfax's Queer Rebirth, an Iconic Bar Rises Again

Together they unravel the legends and lore of Denver’s most infamous Avenue and dig into why places like Crazy Horse are so important to the city’s LGBTQ community.

That’s all for today! I hope you have a happy Thursday and eat something delicious.
