🛟 Another Lifeguard Shortage Looms Ahead Of Summer

Denver could be looking at another hot, pool-less summer as the nationwide lifeguard shortage creeps into its third consecutive season. To help, Gov. Jared Polis unveiled a new lifeguard training program that will award cities up to $20,000 in grants to beef up pool staff. Denver is hoping to open all its public pools June 9. [Axios Denver]

🏫 Superintendent Marrero Wins Raise, Contract Extension

In a narrow 4-3 vote, the Denver school board has approved a 10% salary increase for superintendent Alex Marrero, making him among the highest earning superintendents in the state. Board members who voted against the raise argued poor timing and a lack of transparency in the negotiation process. The board also extended his contract to run through June 30, 2026. [Chalkbeat]

🛏️ Texas Buses Migrants To Denver

On Thursday, 41 migrants arrived in Denver on a bus chartered by the Texas Division of Emergency Management. Denver city resources for sheltering the migrants are already stretched thin, and officials say they were given only 24 hours’ notice from TDEM. Of the thousands of migrants Denver has received since December, this is the first group to arrive by the coordination of another state government, something many are criticizing as a political stunt. • 🔎 Dive deeper: Where are these migrants coming from? Why Denver? And what’s going to happen to them now? We talked with Denver Post reporter Saja Hindi who tracked some of the most recent arrivals from Venezuela all the way to Denver. [City Cast Denver 🎧]
