🤑 Did Lauren Boebert violate campaign laws again?
May 12, 2023
Hey, Denver! It’s Tío Adrian, filling in for Peyton today. Still in need of a Mother’s Day gift? Check out this local gift ideas list from our friends at Axios. And keep reading for my holiday weekend event recommendations.

What's CITY Talking About?
💰 Boebert Accused of Misusing Campaign Funds
The left-leaning group End Citizens United filed a complaint against Rep. Lauren Boebert, alleging that she improperly reported nearly $60,000 on her reelection campaign in 2022. This marks the third time Boebert has been accused of mishandling campaign money — she eventually paid back the money for the first two complaints. [The Denver Post 🔒]
🗝️ Landlords Paying the Price
Denver is cracking down on landlords without proper licensing. A new law requiring licenses for multi-unit rental properties went into effect in January, and the city handed down the first fines earlier this week. A total of 36 properties were fined $150 each, and they could end up paying more if owners are not compliant. [Axios Denver]
💚 American Elm Reopens After Shooting
The West Highland restaurant, which shut down after a fatal shooting last month that took the life of two employees, is partially reopening today for Mother’s Day weekend. Chef Daniel Mangin and his team plan to fully reopen on May 18. The double homicide is still under investigation. [The Denver Post]
🇺🇸 A Baseball-Themed Citizenship Ceremony
Colorado’s federal trial court is teaming up with the Colorado Rockies later this month to host a citizenship naturalization ceremony at Coors Field. The newly-minted citizens will get to take their oath in front of the gameday crowd and will receive free Rockies tickets. Announcement of the ceremony reportedly came just a year after team ownership opposed the plan, calling it “too political” in private conversations. [Colorado Politics]

Where Is It?

Last week’s answer: “Pipelines” by Julia Jamrozik and Coryn Kempster at Plaza of the Americas on 16th Street Mall.
- This playful, climbable art installation debuted as part of the recent Cities Summit of the Americas, which brought together local leaders from across North, South, and Central America to discuss topics such as energy, transportation, migration, climate, democracy, and more. As part of the weeklong international events, the space where the sculpture is located (15th and Wewatta streets) was ceremoniously named Plaza of the Americas.
Big claps for our correct guessers, who were all able to name the location of the sculpture as well as its name!
- 🥇 Tyler B. was the first to write in with the correct answer!
- 🏆 But Andy J., Jordan S., Mateo C., and Ted L. weren’t far behind!
